Halloween decorations for restaurants

03 October 2024

Adapting the decoration of a restaurant to the time of year (or even to a specific day) can be a real headache for the restaurateur, but there is a way to change the decoration of a hospitality business without investing a large amount of money.

Simply by changing your usual tablecloths and napkins for disposable ones that adapt to what you need, you can have your establishment redecorated in a single day.

And without having to re-mortgage yourself.

Today we are going to talk about the elements that are needed for a specific day: Halloween.

The origin of Halloween decoration for restaurants

To talk about the decoration of this holiday we must first understand its origins. This way we will know exactly why we are going to use these elements and colors that we propose for the decoration of Halloween for restaurants.

A tradition of more than 3,000 years

Halloween has its origins in the 8th century BC (yes, before Christ). In the Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan celebration where, on October 31, the inhabitants of the Celtic village celebrated the end of the harvest season.

And why Halloween? Because, with the arrival of Christianity, November 1 was designated as All Saints’ Day. And the day before, in English, was called All Hallow’s Eve.

Over the years it ended up being shortened until it was called Halloween.

Why those tones and colors in the Halloween decoration for restaurants?

The traditional colors of Halloween, black and orange, also date back to the Celtic festival of Samhain.

For the Celts, black represented the “death” of summer while orange symbolized the autumn harvest season.

As for the bat, it is believed that it also comes from the celebrations that the Celts held, since, as part of Samhain, they lit large bonfires that attracted insects, which in turn attracted bats.

Use typical colors in Halloween decoration for restaurants

As we explained above, black and orange colours have been typical of this holiday for over 3,000 years.

If something works, why change it?

We suggest setting the table with a black tablecloth (in our case we used the Newtex 120×120 Black tablecloth) together with an orange napkin (we used the 40×40 Canguro Airlaid Orange).

In addition, we used one of the typical elements in Halloween decoration for restaurants: the bat. Together with other elements that remind us of the holiday, such as pumpkins and candlesticks.

And remember, as we always say, adding a series of natural elements in green (such as branches) is always a good idea.

Tablecloths and napkins should be a main part of the decoration

Remember that the elements that take up the most space in your restaurant are the tables. Therefore, they must have a main decoration.

In this sense, it is important that we place the appropriate tablecloths and napkins so that they do not break the style of our Halloween decoration for restaurants.

The ideal: place black tablecloths, which will make the restaurant acquire a dark and “gloomy” tone and combine them, for example, with red napkins (which remind us of blood).

It is always advisable to add old or worn decorative elements to the table, such as old boxes where you can place a candle inside.

You can add cheap elements that serve as napkin rings. As we have done, we have used a set of Dracula’s false teeth to hold the napkin.

Use other elements apart from tablecloths and napkins

It is always advisable to add old or worn decorative elements to the table, such as old boxes where you can place a candle inside.

It is also a good idea to place other objects in the Halloween decorations for restaurants that remind us of this holiday, such as candles, pumpkins and even a bit of spider web (don’t go overboard with the latter, it may end up bothering the diner).

You can add cheap items that can be used as napkin rings. As we have done, we have used a set of Dracula’s false teeth to hold the napkin.

We leave you the image of the folded napkin.

It can also be decorated in other shades besides black.

It is true that on Halloween we look for a dark and spooky decoration. But you may have a restaurant that is already dark and you do not want to make it even darker.

Don’t worry!

Not all Halloween decorations for restaurants have to be dominated by black.

You can also make other colors that provide more light dominate.

Like white, for example.

Using this color will give light to your premises and, if you combine the elements of the decoration correctly, you can achieve an equally chilling atmosphere.
